About Camulodunum Preservation
Camulodunum Preservation is a property preservation specialist working in Colchester and the surrounding parts of Essex. Our work is deliberately narrow: damp, moisture and the timber problems that follow from them.
Buildings tend to tell you where the moisture is coming from, if you take the time to look properly.
The name comes from Colchester’s Roman origins — Camulodunum — and from the idea that the point of this work is preservation. Keeping buildings sound and dry, with the least intervention that will actually achieve it.

How we work
Why correct diagnosis matters
Damp proofing has a reputation problem, and much of it is deserved. Treatments are often sold on the basis of a symptom rather than a cause, which is why so many homeowners find the damp returning a year later.
Specialist focus
Damp, moisture and timber preservation. We do not take on general building work, because focus is where the expertise comes from.
Diagnosis before treatment
Every recommendation we make follows from an understanding of why the building is damp.
Respect for older properties
Traditional buildings manage moisture differently. That is a design feature, not a defect to be sealed over.
Proportionate recommendations
The right answer is sometimes a gutter repair. We would rather tell you that than sell you a room of replastering.
Straightforward explanations
No jargon, no scare tactics, no pressure. You should understand your building better after speaking to us.
Local to Colchester
Colchester and the surrounding Essex villages, with the varied housing stock that comes with them.
Credentials
What we will not claim
We do not list accreditations, guarantees, review scores or trading history that we have not set out for you to verify. As those details are confirmed for publication, they will appear here rather than being implied elsewhere on the site.
In the meantime, judge us on how clearly we explain your building. Ask us about your property and see what kind of answer you get.
Seeing damp or mould in your property?
You do not need to work out the cause yourself. Tell us what you are seeing and we can help you understand the next sensible step.
